Energy Saving Tips During Winter

Winter will soon be leaving (how I wish sooner, LOL!), and while we are still feeling the unbearable cold, here are some helpful tips you should know on how you could increase your daily savings and help keep your energy bills in check.

  • Control your thermostat. A programmable thermostat specifically designed for your heating system can help you manage your energy costs. Program your thermostat to gradually lower the temperature of your home during the day while your home remains empty - then gradually increase the temperature in time for your return. Remember, keeping your thermostat below 73 degrees at all times will help you save even more!
  • Open the drapes. Opening the drapes and the blinds of south-facing windows each morning will allow sunlight to help warm your home during the day. Closing them at night will help guard against drafts-keeping valuable heat inside your home when you need it most.
  • Add a layer. Resist the urge to turn up your thermostat every time you feel a chill - instead, put on a lightweight sweater or a layer of clothing and keep the thermostat steady.
  • Clean up. Clear away obstacles and move furniture away from vents and returns to ensure good air flow. Likewise, take the time to have your heating system inspected by a professional to make sure it's in good working order.
