DO's and DONT's of Travel Style

Here are some helpful tips to make your travel light and easy. Stay comfy and not look like a tourist-even when you are! :).
  1. Avoid shrink wrapping! - You DON'T want to wear tight and/or cropped clothes to sit on a plane for two reasons: Everything expands, and you want to be able to fall asleep next to someone without exposing extreme amounts of butt or stomach.
  2. Leave the tricky add-ons at home. - Unless you want to make enemies of everyone else in the airport security line, DO keep accessories simple; it's not the time for ankle-tie-espadrilles!
  3. To look chic anywhere - DO add a neatly tailored jacket as an outer layer over more casual underpinnings. It gives you a more polished style; that means you could get on the plane in Duluth (with an upgrade!) and arrive in Paris without looking out of place in either city.
  4. Skip the PJ's. - DON'T think being comfortable while you travel means all style rules are off: The plane is not the place for your gym clothes or your pajamas.
  5. Shorts or not? - DON'T believe that teeny little Daisy Duke shorts are appropriate anywhere. They're fine for the beach, but if you're in a city, they scream "tourist"! A cute dress is an alternative DO anywhere.
  6. The simpler, the better. - DO pack for trips with a simple color palette to keep your luggage light and you looking great. Dress up khaki, brown and white with gold accessories, or gray, black and white with silver :).
  7. Stay Neat. - To look good even after a long flight, DO opt for dark colors like brown, navy or black in lightweight fabrics that don't wrinkle or show dirt.

Bingo, Anyone?

Way back in the mid-70's, where CDs and DVDs are not yet around, I learned to play bingo with mom and dad. I find it fun because mom and dad used to play with a monetary prize, so whoever wins gets the prize. That made me play more and more aiming for the prize! :).
Of course, it was still the common bingo game where you use cards and chips. We had bunch of bingo cards in a big box, and we used different chips when playing, - shells, stones, beads, soda caps, etc...LOL! It didn't matter, we still had lots of fun!
Nowadays, kids are really lucky enough to play games on CDs or DVDs. Well, adults are included as well. isn't it that we join our kids playing games on DVD? Fun, isn't it?
Take for example, Disney Bingo. This is really great for the entire family. For kids, Disney DVD Bingo lets them learn while they play. It's like having fun while learning, isn't it cool? One attractive feature is that they can play with their favorite Disney characters and movie clips while at the same time kids can learn about colors, numbers and matching skills.
To purchase your own copy of Disney Bingo game, visit Amazon.om or Drugstore.com. Grab one now before they run out of it. You can't just afford your kids to miss this big fun of learning, right? And fun for you too :).

This Humbling Award Goes to...

I am thankful for Lisa for giving this blog a recognition. In this award she included this blog in her list as one of her favorites when it comes to catching up some updates. Thanks sis, I really appreciate it, and I'm humbled :). I know these days, I am not quite into picking up some updates on my posts, but I would struggle to the best of my effort to freshen up some posts here, hehehe...

Hopefully, I can be able to catch up updating all of them as well. Whew! Quite a long way to go.

New Jersey's Best Amusement Park

I still remember when we had a quick side trip going to Camden, New Jersey. That was mid-summer of this year and that time it was really super hot there. So, we only had a quick visit to Camden Waterfront and the aquarium.
I am not aware there's one great place for summer family beach vacation. I always love the summer season, and if only I've known this earlier, I would have been probably enjoying my summer swim there :). Well, I'm glad there's always a "next time"! :). We might be having a trip scheduled for New Jersey next year - hopefully in summer.
If you love the beach as well as amusement parks, then you might want to try New Jersey water parks. It's both an amusement and water park, - the Morey's Piers. Did you know that Morey's Piers is now considered as the best amusement park in New Jersey? Not only that. It is also considered as the largest amusement piers in the world! The park has over 100 exciting amusement park rides and attractions which also includes two large beachfront waterparks, roller coasters, kiddie rides and many more.
Aside from that, Morey's Piers offers its customers weekly specials that are budget friendly. Their site will as well help you find a place to stay such as hotels and motels at an affordable costs and convenient locations.

Getting Back On Track After Thanksgiving

This might be a little too early to post, but anyway, Thanksgiving will be coming soon, so I want to share to you some tips on how to get back on track after partying with Mr. Turkey :).

Indulging a little on Thanksgiving makes it easier to get back on track the next day. The same strategies that help control overeating work even better the day after, when there's less social pressure, to go overboard.

Start by stepping on the scale. If you've gained weight, that can motivate you to avoid devouring a fridge full of leftovers. More ideas:

  • At breakfast, instead of eating a doughnut, try a bowl of wholegrain cereal or oatmeal with fruit and nonfat milk.
  • Instead of butter or cream cheese on your toast or bagel, try a little unsweetened fruit jam.
  • Put leftover vegetables in your blender, heat and - voila - soup!
  • Get out of the kitchen and go shopping. Black Friday is one of the best shopping days of the year. Do a few laps around the mall before you begin and bring fruit to snack on.
  • Exercise more. Many people don't have to work the day after Thanksgiving, so it's easier to schedule a long walk or sing up for a "Turkey Blast" fitness walk or class at the gym. If nothing else, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and park farther away from your destination.

Turkey Without the "Stuffing"

Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching. This means to many, it's the time to face a challenge - how to survive the holiday without gaining unwanted pounds.
The whole holiday season can feel like a minefield of overindulgence, and it's almost impossible not to eat more than we want to. But it's not very difficult to enjoy the bounty without bloating up as big as the Mayflower.
Some tips for Thanksgiving:
  • Have a low-calorie filling snack before the big feast-an apple, a whole-grain bagel, cereal or a small bowl of soup-so you don't arrive ravenous and lose control.
  • Put 20% fewer high-calorie foods and 20% more fruits and vegetables on your plate.
  • Eat healthier foods first. They'll fill you up somewhat, so you'll be less likely to overeat the other stuff.
  • Serve yourself instead of allowing your sister-in-law or spouse to heap your plate full.
  • Choose foods that leave evidence: Keep those shrimp tails and chicken wing bones on your plate when you're done. Studies show that if you see how much you've already had, you'll eat less.
  • Go slow. If you wolf down your food, your plate may be clean while others are still eating. That invites seconds. Take a sip of water every bite or two to slow yourself down.
  • Use a small plate. The tinier the dish, the less food you'll take and the less you'll eat.
  • When you're in a restaurant, ask the server not to put bread on the table. Leave more room for your other favorite holiday foods instead.
  • Substitute cranberry sauce, loaded with antioxidants, for fatty, high-calorie gravy.
  • On potatoes and yams, avoid butter, cheese, bacon and sour cream. If possible, substitute low-fat yogurt or nonfat sour cream.
  • Watch the alcohol, which has almost 200 calories per ounce and slows down metabolism. Too much alcohol impairs judgment, so the more you drink, the more you're likely to eat.
  • Have just a few bites of dessert. The first bite is always best, anyway.
  • Take a stroll after dinner. Walking not only burns calories, it also helps relieve bloating and prevent heartburn.

A Short Essay About The Philippines - by Jaeyoun Kim

This seems to be a good article to ponder on. This was sent to me by email so I thought of sharing this as well. Filipinos out there, maybe it's time to slow down a little bit and take time to read it.

My Short Essay about the Philippines
by Jaeyoun Kim
Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines . Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines ? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines .
Let me first talk about my country, Korea . It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because the entire country was destroyed completely after the KoreanWar, and we had no natural resources. Koreans used to talk about the Philippines , for Filipinos were very rich in Asia . We envy Filipinos.Koreans really wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans diedof famine. My father's brother also died because of famine. Korean government was awfully corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heartburning with patriotism. Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism.
40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea .He tried to borrow money from other countries, but it was not possibleto get a loan and attract a foreign investment because the economicsituation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory. They had to go through a horrible experience.
In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried thereas they saw President Park . They asked to him, "President, when can we be well off?" That was the only question everyone asked to him.President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would bewell off if everyone works hard for Korea , and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea . So,President Park was able to build many factories in Korea . He always asked Koreans to love their country from their heart. Many Koreanscientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developthe country because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea . They always hoped that their children would live in a well off country.
My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live. They wanted me to understand their life and help them. I also worked for a Catholic church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from the Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighbor. And I have loved my neighbor. Have you cried for the Philippines ? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people. I have beento the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for the Church. They pray everyday. However, they do not love the Philippines . I talked to two prisoners at the maximum security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are released from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to thePhilippines.
Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to shareour wealth with our neighbor. The owners of factories and companies distributed their profits to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and save money for the future and their children.
When I was in Korea , I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest. However, when I came to the Philippines , I completely lost my faith.I was very confused when I saw many unbelievable situations in thePhilippines . Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia , but there are too many poor people here. People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed.
My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pagsanjan, I forced my parents to take aboat because it would be fun. However, they were not happy after taking the boat. They said that they would not take the boat again because they sympathized with the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it. But my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them.
My mother who has been working for a Catholic church since I was veryyoung told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves,we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action. She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because allof us are the same and have received a great love from God. I want Filipinos to love their neighbor and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off. I am sure that love is the keyword which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from the person. Love must start ineverybody in a small scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen ifwe open up to love. Let's put away our prejudices and look at our worries with new eyes. I discover that every person is worthy to beloved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships.
It changes the world. Please love your neighbor and country. Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others, we do to Him. In the Philippines , there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach themhow to love the Philippines . Teach them why they have to love their neighbor and country. You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others.
That's all I really want to ask you Filipinos.
"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." -Anatole France

I ALMOST DIED!=)

Last night my mom and I were sitting in the living room talking about the many things of life... in-between ... we talked about the idea of living or dying. I said to her: ' Mom, never let me live in a vegetative state, totally dependent on machines and liquids from a bottle. If you see me in that state I want you to disconnect all the contraptions that are keeping me alive, I'd much rather die'. Then my mom got up from the sofa with this real look of admiration towards me...and proceeded to disconnect the TV, the Cable, the Dish, the DVD,the Computer, the Cell Phone, the Ipod, and the Xbox, and then went tothe fridge and threw away all my beer!!....I ALMOST DIED!!!=)

How To Deal With Your Dog's Separation Anxiety

Do you come home to find that your dog has wreaked destruction to your house and possessions? Has he left "accidents" on the floor or your bed? Have you received phone messages from neighbors complaining about your dog's barking and howling?
If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, your dog may have separation anxiety.
To successfully treat separation anxiety, owners may need to modify their interactions with their dogs like reducing the drama of their departure and arrival home because mushy goodbyes and high-pitched greetings trigger anxiety. Dogs also become more secure when owners implement positive obedience training techniques.
To reduce separation anxiety behavior, follow these recommendations:
  • Exercise your dog about 20-30 minutes before you leave home. A tired dog is less likely to be anxious or destructive if he has less energy.
  • Provide your dog with a safe area of confinement such as a dog crate. The crate creates a den-like atmosphere, prevents housebreaking accidents and destruction to your home, and should never be associated with punishment. Feed your dog in his crate and place healthy yummy treats there at bedtime.
  • Five minutes before leaving, give your dog a goody-stuffed hollow toy such as a Kong to keep him occupied during your absence.
  • Play quiet music, preferably classical, that has been proven to have a calming effect on anxious animals.
  • When leaving, calmly and without emotion say, "I'll be back" and use the same voice when greeting your dog when arriving home. Another effective strategy is not to say anything before leaving and not for several minutes upon your return.
  • Exit from a different door or room and alter your routine to prevent your dog's anticipation of your departure (put keys in pocket during the dog's final potty break, place briefcase in your car while you are still wearing pajamas, etc.)
  • Ignore the dog for about 10 minutes after arriving home but pet and greet him only when he is calm.

With a structured treatment plan, time and patience, separation anxiety behaviors may be reduced and possibly eliminated.

One Blog Down By PPP!

It's so much frustrating to know that one of my blogs is now disqualified by PPP. (My World of Life's Adventures) They say it lacks overall quality and will no longer be qualified to accept any opportunities in the marketplace. Well, I don't have any choice, do I? Whatever the standards they use to decide a blog has no overall quality, I respect that. My friendster blog is undergoing a new version and until now, they are on the process of moving older blogs to the new one which is now my personalized theme is completely gone and that includes all my co blogger's links completely gone! It seems the new themes added are Wordpress inspired! Wordpress doesn't really smell good to many paid blogging sites, so I am guessing that's one of the reasons why my friendster blog is now about to lie low in the paid blogging world! :(.

Holidays in Pembrokeshire

I am looking forward to visiting London someday. It's one of my dreams to spend a memorable vacation there. I am thinking that this dream is just so close to becoming real since my husband and I travel a lot :). Then, I have learned about Celtic Haven located in Pembrokeshire just situated at the heart of Pembrokeshire National Park and has excellent access to the country's motorway network. From the view itself, it's really stunning! I believe it would be a great holiday destination then. And come to think of it. If our future plans would push through, I can further be enhancing my golf skills from their cool Golf programme at Celtic Haven as well. For me, that's cool!
Golf Holiday Wales can be considered a blast of fun with a luxury vacation at hand in Celtic Haven, don't you think?
Wll, if you think playing golf is expensive, think again. At Celtic Haven, golf is for everyone from beginners to the experts! The golf course has a 9-hole headland viewing over Caldey Island. It also has the Golf Academy if you prefer playing indoors. There are so much things to do holidaying in Celtic Haven aside from golfing. If you are planning for a great and memorable wedding, a place to stay, or if you love luxury spa or just love to eat and drink, Celtic Haven has it all for you. Now, that's what you call a real holiday vacation!

Don't Cosign Your Child's Loan-Do This Instead

Parents often cosign credit cards or other loans for their children. But you should be aware that in many states, creditors are not required to notify the cosigners when a borrower exceeds a credit limit or falls behind on loan payments. As a reult, you can become liable for overdue payments and penalties without ever knowing there was a problem. And your credit rating may be harmed as well.

Here's a better way: Consider having the child cosign your credit card. That way, the child will have access to the credit line and build a credit history, while monthly statements will come directly to you.

Battling "The Blues" (Depression)

According to the Alternative Remedy Pro:

Studies have suggested that taking Saint-John's wort, SAM-e and omega-3 fatty acids under a doctor's supervision would help, particularly milder forms of depression. If your sadness starts to interfere with work or relationships, it may be more serious; antidepressants can be a good idea.

According to The Psychiatrist:

First, rule out medical causes such as a drug side effect. Drinking too much can cause depression, as can not being active enough. Exercise is a wonderful treatment that's more effective than some drugs. Negative thoughts can ruin your day, but identifying and correcting them have huge antidepressant qualities.

According to The Nutrition Expert:

The first line of action should be nutrition and light therapy. Low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet may lead to a brain prone to depression. Research shows that eating more omega-3 can help treat the problem. It is suggested to get at least 30 minutes of sunlight a day, which could boost your body's production of the feel-good hormone serotonin.

According to The Life Coach:

You can quickly get preoccupied by sad thoughts. When you're brooding about something you may have other, similarly gloomy thoughts, and it's easy to follow them into depression. You may want to push your attention toward the positive. Distract yourself with something amusing or fun to change your mindset. This won't work for serious chemical depression; for that, you should seek professional help.

When A Woman Tells Lies

One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, 'My dear child, why are you crying?' The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family.

The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled up a golden thimble set with sapphires.

www.FunAndFunOnly.net

'Is this your thimble?' the Lord asked .

The seamstress replied, 'No.'

The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a

golden thimble

studded with rubies.

www.FunAndFunOnly.net

'Is this your thimble?' t he Lord asked. Again, the seamstress replied, 'No.'

The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble.

www.FunAndFunOnly.net

'Is this your thimble ?' the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, 'Yes.' The Lord was pleased w ith the woman's honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.

Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water. When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, 'Why are you crying?'

'Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!'

The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney.

'Is this your husband?' the Lord asked.

www.FunAndFunOnly.net

'Yes,' cried the seamstress.

The Lord was furious. 'You lied! That is an untruth!'

The seamstress replied, 'Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said 'no' to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt.

www.FunAndFunOnly.net

Then if I said 'no' to him, you would have come up with my husband. Had I then said 'yes,' you would have given me all three. Lord, I'm not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all three husbands, so THAT'S why I said 'yes' to George Clooney.

And so the Lord let her keep him.

The moral of this story is:

Whenever a woman lies, it's for a good and honorable reason, and in the best interest of others. That's our story, and we're sticking to it.

Signed,

All Us Women
