You need an HDTV with a built-in digital tuner (or an HD-ready TV and a connected external HD tuner). If your local TV stations transmit a digital signal - go to antennaweb.org and enter your zip code to find out-buy an antenna and view the local high-def NBC, Fox, etc. If your tuner has a built-in QAM support, you can often get unencrypted video-on demand programming ordered by the folks in your service area.
