Tips to Give Your Home a Fresh Look

There are plenty of ways to give your home an updated look. If you have grown tired of your home’s appearance, then it may be time to consider making some changes. Several changes can be made easily, and updates may not take as long as you would think.

Plan Your Changes
It is usually best to plan the changes you want to make before you begin your updates. For example, consider getting samples of several paint colors before deciding on a color. This will help you be confident of your choice before you make a final decision. If you are going for a dramatic change, then you may want to choose colors that are bold or bright. Neutral shades can also be an ideal option because they match well with many furniture styles. You may want to use neutral tones in some rooms and bright bursts of color in other rooms.

Take Risks
It is normal to be a bit nervous about making changes, but taking risks can be incredibly rewarding. If you have had the same decorations for several years, then you may feel hesitant to change them. Consider asking friends for their opinions. Friends who visit your home may be able to offer guidance. Sometimes making changes is easier with the help of others.

If changing furniture and painting walls does not give your home enough of an update, then home renovation may be an exciting option. You may be able to update floors, counters and other areas. These updates can give your home a more modern appearance. You may be able to receive free renovation quotes to begin your updated look.

Avoid Stress
Make sure that you do not become overwhelmed during home improvement projects. When you are discussing your plans with others, try to be open to their ideas. Keep communication open with others who are trying to help you make decisions. Home improvement projects are worth the effort, and you will be delighted when you see the pictures of your final results.

Planning your changes before you make final choices can help your home updates move smoothly. You will be glad that you made changes when you are showing your newly updated home to your family and friends.

Stop That Winter Static Woe!

Have you ever noticed (if not always), sometimes, as you take off your hat, your hair strands stand on end? You can actually avoid those hair-raising episode with these simple tweaks!:

  • Upgrade your shampoo - Choose ones that have more moisturizers. The more the hair is coated with moisturizers, the more it is protected from an electric charge building up. Look for those that have glycerin and oils.
  • Condition roots - it's always a good idea to condition your hair all over especially during the cold-weather months. This is to reduce friction between your strands.
  • Don't overdry - While blow drying your hair, don't go over a section of your hair multiple times. Hair that becomes too dry from blow drying will become more static-y!

Best Way Not To Catch Illness While Flying!

Be highly aware of germs transmitted through shared surfaces, or those places that are constantly touched by many.
If you couldn't avoid touching those surfaces, be sure to wash your hands frequently, use a sanitizer and/or clean any surfaces with a disinfectant wipe. Also, be sure you drink plenty of water and be well-rested.

If you're in a plane, don't think it is the air quality or cabin air because it is mostly well circulated and filtered.

So, just keep enjoying your air travel ;)

Your Guide To A Perfect Denim-Fit

Because of our various sizes and shapes, choosing a pair of jeans may sometimes be tough for many. But if you learn the tricks on how to choose what's perfect for you, it would be easy to find your perfect fit.

If you are tall with long legs, try jeans with at least 36-inch inseam to get the best fit. Choose skinny, boot cut or cigarette styles to accentuate your gorgeous legs.

If you are tall and boy-shaped, try high-waisted jeans which can create curves in the waist and hips while emphasizing your long and lean silhouette. Also, try a style with back pockets that slant inward. They lift and enhance your backside.

If you have small waist and big butt, avoid jeans with too much embellished back pockets. Add a pair without pockets to your wardrobe too. Opt for jeans with stretch (like 4-5% spandex) They contour to every curve.

If you're petite and boy-shaped, go for ankle-length cuts. Avoid cuffing as it will make your legs look shorter. Choose also a low rise that gives the illusion of a longer torso and adds curves to your frame.

If you have full thighs and butt, choose ones with an outseam close to the front of the thigh, so it will help your thighs look thinner. Also choose a high rise with a fitted waistline.

If you have full hips, choose jeans that are boot-cut or slightly flared. Avoid baggy jeans as it will only exaggerate your size and conceal your beautiful figure. A hugging jeans shows your curves.

If you're short and pear-shaped, choose a trouser-cut style. The pleats streamline and elongate your figure.

Organizing Your Personal Stuff At Home

Accessories with various sizes can be a tough challenge when it comes to organizing and re arranging them. But there are methods that work ;).

  • For Bags - invest on shelf organizers, just like what they have in the library. They can keep your bags contained and tidy. Larger bags should be arranged side by side, while flat clutches can be stacked flat on top of each other. Remove all purses from their dust bags except for those that have delicate skins. Purses made of suede should be separated from each other as the color can stain. Use acid-free paper to maintain their shapes.
  • For Scarves & Belts - Knit scarves can be rolled and arranged by color in a breathable cloth bin. Belts can be hanged on hooks. A belt-specific hanger can snag on adjacent clothing.
  • For Jewelries - To avoid tangles and losing pendants, keep clasps closed. Bulky items can be put into a hook to prevent more delicate chains safe. Wrap corkboard with fabric alternately, hang it up and invest in sturdy push pins so you can easily see the full array.
  • For Shoes - For boots, line them with boot trees along the floor. Store them with a clear plastic box under the bed when not in use or during warmer months. Avoid putting them on a back-of-the-door racks, as they become too close to your clothing. You never know what your shoes pick up, - bacteria, virus, germs, etc...You don't want them stuck on your clothes. Flats and heels can be stacked in clear-labeled boxes. Flip-flops and sneakers can be piled in a catchall bin.

Avoiding Winter Skin Woes

As the temperature gets cooler and further drops, expect drying conditions ahead! And the more the weather gets close to freezing and below zero, the more our skin is at high risk for common skin dryness and even ailments.

Scalp. - Dandruff is the main problem you usually encounter during the cold, wintry months. The best solution is to use shampoo that is considered skin soother. Use a tar-based shampoo which slows down cell regeneration - or anti yeast formulas which can help remove the scalp fungus that causes flaking.
Also, get enough intake on walnuts, wild salmon and canned tuna; they have omega 3 fatty acids that may help reduce inflammation that makes flakes.

Limbs. Psoriasis may appear as silvery white scales on your elbows, knees and lower back and tends to worsen as the skin sucks cold air, making it crack. Avoid wearing fabrics that can irritate like wool. Use soft fleece instead, corduroy or cotton.
Also, use moisturizers such as creams because they preserve moisture better. And one importhant thing, don't forget to get your flu shot ;).

Face. - Inflammation causes those red facial bumps marked as rosacea which can also trigger stress and spicy food. This usually is caused by sensitivity to humidity when low humidity wind shifts from indoor heat to cold outside air, making the skin chafe.
Try using a soapless facial cleanser such as Cetaphil to avoid skin dehydration.

Whole Body. - Be alert for a development of eczema which inflames the skin, making it itchy, leaving red patches on your extremities and face. Heaters also dry out the air that makes the skin parch., while hot showers can wash away lipid barriers, - considered to be our body's natural moisturizer.
Always protect your body from the chill with gloves, scarves and hats. Do have only warm bath and a humidifier instead of hot showers.

How To Get a Good Flight Seat Even If You Don't Have Elite Status

Try choosing your flight by checking cabin layout, like seatguru.com. It has a new flight-search function letting you filter your results by comfort as well as price, duration of flight, etc. Seatguru also tells you how much will it cost to trade up for a plane with more legroom or seat adjustment system.

If you want to buy a better seat, be sure it is worth it. Costs of trading up can range from $8 to $129 per flight, depending on the carrier and whenever you buy the upgrade. Sometimes price decreases as the flight date comes closer.

Spend your miles (if you have one) by upgrading but take note that there are some hassles sometimes. Like some cheaper fare economy tickets aren't eligible for upgrades, or require significantly more miles than full-fare tickets do. So often, you end up chipping in cash as well as miles.
Depending on the airlines, they charge differently based on fare class and length of flight. Also, always keep in mind your preferred carrier's alliance partners. You can often spend your miles for upgrade on their flights as well.

DOs & DONT's For Planning A Garden Party

Do consider the weather since you know it will be outdoors. So, have a back up plan. Consider investing a shade canopy as a back up just in case it rains.

Do provide waste containers and recyclables near refill zones.

Do pull furniture off the porch and bring out group chairs and tables together for a more convenient eating and interactions among visitors.

Don't forget to make a shade. Use patio umbrella to keep food from spoiling as well as protection of your guests from heat (if sunny).

Your Aches & Pains, - What's Really Causing It?

  • Headache - more commonly, we think that napping can solve headaches. But a study from the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Training Program at Rush University Medical Center says that napping can actually make the problem worse because napping during the day can cause insomnia at night, and so lack of sleep makes us even become more susceptible to headaches. Try breaking the cycle by skipping the nap and going to bed earlier. If this doesn't work, and you toss and turn at night, see your doctor to further discuss about treatment options. Another option would be to try cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) that can help you better deal with stress which causes both headaches and insomnia.
  • Aching Neck - improper posture at the computer keyboard can be one of the reasons, but too much text messaging can also be another culprit, as it can increase the risk of neck and shoulder pain, based on a study from Temple University. The body's position when texting like stationary shoulders with rapidly moving fingers is the same to the position for typing on a computer, - which causes you to experience neck pain. Try changing your position, - like try texting with your hands on your lap, alternating it with using your hands higher up. Other option would be to try a stretching routine; While seated, tilt head to the right, raise right arm up and over your head, gently resting your hand on the left side of your head. Close eyes and hold for 6-8 breaths. Repeat on the other side.
  • Stuffy Nose From Allergies - If you use over-the-counter saline production, try not to overdo it. A recent study says rinsing too much may do more harm than good. Too much rinsing of the nose would get rid of the good mucus in your nostrils that fights bacteria, viruses or fungi, which will make you highly susceptible of getting cold or sinus infection easily. Saline sprays can be used for a week or two in treating cold or allergies, but if you need treatment more than that, consult your allergist to know what's the root of the problem.

Sneaky Ways To Help You Spend Smarter!

Once you've gotten more cash in that wallet of yours, don't get too excited to just blow it all with a shopping spree! Consider the fact that buying certain things at certain times can mean spending less.

For instance, you might want to try shopping on Mondays, as department stores typically mark down their items on Sunday nights or Monday mornings. This is a great way to get great deals! :)

If you're eyeing to shop for furnitures, linens or other stuff for homes, try doing it between January to end of February when retailers offer the biggest discounts.

If you are planning for your next get away vacation, try booking for air tickets on a Tuesday morning. Fare sales are usually given on Monday nights, so competitors usually match (or beat) those prices by morning.

Happy shopping! :)

Back To School Shopping Rules

Having some rules as guides for back-to-school shopping is a perfect way for parents to help their kids buy their school needs and yet still within the budget. At the same time, parents can help their children develop a good lifelong financial habits in the process.

Parents can lead by setting an example when it comes to handling finances intelligently.

Here are the tips that should start a parent-kid conversation when shopping for school needs.

  • Before going to the mall, both parents and the kids should know what you can afford and can't. Make sure that a certain budget amount is set and both should stick with it.
  • Kids should make a list of things they need and both parents and kids can go over with the list for a further review. Having a list can also help kids understand of what they really need rather than what they want. It will also help them to plan and save.
  • Both parents and kids should sit down and discuss what to purchase now and what can wait until later in the school year. This way, both can take advantage for discounts and sales.
  • Using smartphone. It can help as a shopping assistant with the help of some free apps that can be used to get the best deals as well as the closest locations on a variety of items. Smartphones can also be used to scan barcodes to compare prices on the items on the shopping list, as well as it can help check availability both online and in the actual store locations closest to home.

Things You Should Know To Avoid Sports Injuries

If you work long hours from a sedentary job, a sudden burst of activity can make you a high risk for injury, particularly in the lower back and knees. So, just increase your activity at intensity considering your pace, distance, or weight by at least 10% per week.

Before exercising, be sure to take 16 ounces of water first thing in the morning, and 16 ounces about half hour before you exercise. This can help you avoid dehydration (whether severe or moderate) that can prevent you from tripping or twisting your ankle.
Drink more liquids if your activity lasts more than an hour. Eating greens and bananas regularly can also prevent cramping during your exercise.

Try skipping the brace (over-the-counter) if you plan of wearing them for more than a day or two, as they tend to weaken the muscles so they're more susceptible to injury.

Try buying a foam roller. You can search them online for cheaper prices. According to a recent study, it found that 10 minutes following foam rolling, flexibility increases by more than 10%. To use a foam roller: - lie on a 6-inch diameter foam log, then press on the muscle you're targeting with your body weight. As you roll, you will break down knots and improve range of motion.

If you are inspired, try R.I.C.E. first before you rush to the emergency room for a minor injury. R.I.C.E. means Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevate, which is a good treatment for several days. If there is still a discomfort, ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist.
This can help you recover faster and get a lower cost of treatment compared to those who have delayed care.

My Phone's Support Accessories!

Right after I bought my Iphone 6+, it looks so delicate that anytime I drop or hit it hard with any object, it might break! :) I know I sound so silly, but it was just natural for me to become over protective with this phone because it came with a pricey tag! I chose to get the unlocked one since I do travel a lot and can use it out of the country.

So, I tried looking for a casing that wouldn't look so bulky and heavy so I can carry it conveniently in my smaller purses. I actually tried looking in some stores, but I just don't like the styles as they are too thick.
I tried online, and I saw some. I saw this pair from Amazon, and one of the features say they can protect the phone from sudden hard drops and scratches. The only downside of this is, it takes a while to fit it on the phone as you have to really stretch the corners to fit in the phone's size. Same thing when you remove it. But truly, I already tested the credibility of it when I brought it in one of my trips in the Caribbean. I used my phone with the blue protective cover in taking a shot with my phone stand. The tripod was light and suddenly there was that gusty breeze that passed by, and the tripod collapsed. I was running to catch it but were not able to do it on time before it hit the floor. I picked my phone and I there was my phone, still good without any single scratch and cracks! Whew! Thank God! So, I am loving these two despite of the tight fit! ;)

I also bought another style with a cover design and a 4 pocket slots for cards or IDs or paper bills. It's actually one cool design that I like. Uniquely done. It also has a strap that will act as a support to avoid accidental drops. But I couldn't speak for myself if this can protect the phone for a scratch or sudden drop. I just hope I wouldn't drop it in anyway! I rarely use this one though, so I guess it should be okay.

House Cleaning, Easy As 1, 2, 3!

Cleaning a huge home can be very tough including some other household chores you do in between. I have been struggling these past few weeks catching up with my household cleaning and clearing stuff that I and my husband no longer need. Well, I can perhaps do the disposing of old stuff like that, but the cleaning and scrubbing?...

I know most of us would be always busy at work most of the time, and we couldn't even barely just make the shower or tub cleaned! So, how about a housecleaning service? Would that make our life even easier? Oh, yes!...a LOT! ;)

So, I saw this link theotherwoman.net, a house cleaning and maid service cleaning company located in North Carolina area, particularly in Raleigh, Cary, Gamer, Apex and Holly Springs. Their services are affordable so you don't need to worry about spending a big budget for it. You can check their rates and services directly online.

The 3 Fads About Turkey Meat

Fad #1: Turkey's dark meat is bad for you.
It's aa fact that a turkey leg has about 30 more calories and 4 grams of fat per serving than its breast meat, but dark meat also packs more folate than iron, - 2 nutrients that help boost energy, good for your heart's health. So, if you're a leg lover, go for it! ;)

Fad#2: Turkey can make you sleepy.
If you get into a food coma particularly on Thanksgiving Day, don't blame the turkey! Turkey doesn't contain a tryptophan, - a relaxing amino acid often the cause of tiredness. This is present in chicken or beef. If you become sleepy, it's because you ate too much of a big meal. Any big meal can slow us down!

Fad#3: It's not safe to cook stuffing inside a turkey.
While it's a fact that bacteria from a raw turkey cavity can get into the stuffing and multiply, it's just okay to pop it in the oven right away and make sure to cook it up to 165 degrees on a meat thermometer.

Protect Your Table With Quality Table Covers!

I still prefer table cloths for my table covers at home. While they maybe a bit pricey as compared to disposables or plastic table covers, your money will always be worth it in the end when it comes to durability and length of use.

I am thinking of actually upgrading the cover of my 4-seaters round table at home. Premier Table Linens online offers high quality table cloths, so I would surely Buy Round tablecloth online. With their various collections of fibers, it is actually better to have the best choice I can have to have an elegant design that I can put on my round table for special occasions.

The Right Toothpaste For Your Teeth

Taking good care of our teeth is one way of helping our dentists minimizing any future teeth problems someday, - at least in our own little way. So, how do you pick the right toothpaste for your teeth?
First, consider choosing one with a flouride. This protects your teeth against acid which is one cause of a tooth decay. Flouride also reduces acid made by bacteria in your mouth.

Consider also looking for the ADA seal, which assures the credibility of claims reflected on the label, such as whitening or tartar control.
Try giving your teeth a "tongue test". If they feel gritty soon after brushing, you're building up plaque faster than average. So that your best option is to choose a paste that prevents its growth, like Crest Pro-Health or Colgate Total.

Stick on following directions. If a whitening toothpaste says to brush twice a day, and you brush 5x instead, you don't get whiter teeth, but may instead wear down your enamel.
It's also ideal to use a pea-size amount.

Musical Education For Better Music Quality Performance

Music is a window of the soul. For many musicians and music lovers, it is more than a fulfillment to create their own music not only for them to enjoy but for their audience as well. Many famous band and orchestra players came up with a good training in music education

Music teachers and trainers can be considered as unsung heroes! What is music without them? How can a music lover be inspired without their encouragement, right?

It is always nice to enjoy the music you make through a mentor. Your skills will take you up to the next level while at the same time enjoying your own kind of music.

Samsung Galaxy Cam (EK-GC110) In Coma Mode!

I bought this camera in 2013, and honestly it didn't disappoint me. It was pricey, but it was worth it due to its extra photo mode functions and photo quality. The only thing I wished for was that it should have been lighter and smaller.

It was the hard drop that its zooming lens hit a stone...then it ended everything! :(

The result...it can no longer take a photo and every time I press the camera, the "zooming lens error" kept popping up on the screen.
The only good thing is that I can still turn it on, and can still view all the photo files in the gallery, and can edit or delete them. It still worked when I connected it to my PC, so just to be sure, I copied all my photos in here and moved it to my notebook storage as back up.

A bad lesson learned; - I didn't get any warranty when I bought it. I went back to Best Buy where I bought it and they said they can't do anything about it considering the fact that I didn't have any warranty, but they suggested me to take it to the Geek Squad. Obviously, this means I have to shell out some more bucks for the repair if they can possibly do it.

Oh well, I still haven't brought it for repair yet. This camera needs a lot of extra care. Just even a slight drop on a hard surface can ruin everything. Handling it requires extra caution!
