The answer is a resounding YES! Vitamin D, which the body produces when exposed to sunlight, may help protect against diseases including osteoporosis, breast and colon cancers.
According to Darrell Regel, MD., you need a little bit of sun, but to intentionally lie out or go tanning for vitamin D is crazy.
You can get vitamin D you need with just 20-30 minutes of total weekly sun exposure to the hands and face when the sun isn't at its peak-an amount that even the cave dwellers get just by walking around. :)
