Keys to Healthier Living With COPD

You can remain more active and stay healthier when you choose a healthy lifestyle and following your treatment plan. The key is proper management to a stable COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).

Visit your doctor regularly even when you're feeling fine.
Follow any treatment advice, and be sure to take your medications as prescribed. Refill your prescriptions before they run out.

Quit smoking if you're a smoker. It's the best way to stop more lung damage. Your doctor can help you about it. Options include counselling, nicotine replacement products and non-nicotine medications.

Avoid pollutants such as dust, air pollution, strong fumes and second hand smoke, which can hurt your lungs.

Get flu shots every year. Lower your exposure to germs by washing your hands often and always try to avoid crowds during flu season.
