Hormone Imbalance Causes Acne

Women in their mid-20's to mid-40's with acne that doesn't go away no matter what they do is probably due to hormone imbalance.

You may want to be tested for polycystic ovarian syndrome if therapy/treatments haven't helped, says Dr. Manisha Patel, a medical dermatologist at Johns Hopkins.
This condition, PCOS for short happens when there is a hormone imbalance and dysfunction of the ovaries, and one of the telltale symptoms is stubborn and persistent acne.

Other symptoms are irregular periods, excess hair growth and difficulty becoming pregnant.

The good news is that, PCOS can be treated with low-dose hormones or other hormone-balancing drugs.
