Recommended Tips to Avoid Cancer Risk

On May 6, 2010, the President's Cancer Panel published a 240-page report on cancer threats from chemicals and other substances in the environment.

The Cancer Panel Top 10 Recommendations:
  • Drink filtered tap water.
  • Water or food should be stored in glass, stainless steel or BPA and phthalate-free containers.
  • Exposure to carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting chemicals particularly to pregnant women and children should be minimized.
  • Choose veggies and fruits that are not treated with pesticides or chemical fertilizers; and wash all produce to remove all residues.
  • Choose free-range meat that are not treated with antibiotics or growth hormones.
  • Charred, processed or well-done meats should be of minimal consumption.
  • When not in use, turn off all lights and electrical devices.
  • Use bike, public transportation or walk. Drive a fuel-efficient car.
  • Check home radon levels.
  • Avoid UV overexposure as much as possible; avoid or reduce radiation exposure from medical tests and cell phones.
